Bad, bad, persimmons! Stop being...oh, god! You're delicious!
I knew it was a mistake when I started it. A delicious mistake, but still... I had some leftover corn starch sitting in a bowl and I didn't want to just throw it away. We have an excess of persimmons in the house (I expect Japan has regular autumnal infestations of persimmons), so I began musing of the possibilities. The corn starch already had a little salt and paprika in it, so I added 1/2 - 1/4 cup of sugar (I don't really know....I just dumped in what was left in the bag. It wasn't much.). Then, I sliced up one ripe persimmon and coated it with the corn starch mixture and let it sit for a couple minutes. Before long, the corn starch absorbed some juice from the persimmons. I started heating up about 2 inches of oil and re-coated the persimmons. After the oil was hot, I started adding the persimmons, one at a time (cooking chopsticks win!). After they were golden-brownish (the outer crispy bits might look a bit pale, but if you start seeing dark brown flecks, don't let them cook any more), start taking them out. Unless you are using an actual deep-fryer with a basket, judge all of the pieces' done-ness individually. Let them cool a little bit, but not too much, because they are best when still warm. Crispy outside, ooey-gooey inside! Mmmmmmm~! Try adding cinnamon or ginger powder to the corn starch mix for other flavor ideas...or sprinkle cinnamon and/or sugar over the finished fritters! Being deep fried and all makes them not-so-good for you, but they are delicious. |

Okay so I finally finished watching Ah! My Goddess (the TV series) Love the series.. I wish there was more of it.. Started watching the OVAs The art is a bit dated and.. well Odd but only because I watched the TV series first and am used to the art and the voices. Needless to say the dub voice actors are different in the OVAs than the series.. there's several year between the two so it's understandable.. I can cope with that. Plus the OVAs are technicly the original adaption even tho it's said that the TV Series is actually more loyal to the Manga. Then I also watched the first 1/3 of the movie.. Again the voice actors for the english dub are different.. and frankly I think they suck.. The art is a bit dated yeah but WTF!! Keiichi looks like a friggin husky Tenchi clone! and that voice? WTF! They guy can't be bothered to put a lil emotion into it? In the TV Series Drew Arron gives Keiichi a perfect goofy but loveable voice that easily break into desperation when nessesary. All the voices in the film just sound very flat.. no character or emotion imo.. I'll still watch the film and OVAs because it is AMG but I'm likely gonna hunt down the Manga before I buy the film or OVAs. ~ Khei Current Mood: bitchyCurrent Music: AMG - Shiawase no Iro |

Armistice Day
Here's the annual Armistice Day post, courtesy of Kurt Vonnegut. "When I was a boy, and when Dwayne Hoover was a boy, all the people of all the nations which had fought in the First World War were silent during the eleventh minute of the eleventh hour of Armistice Day, which was the eleventh day of the eleventh month. It was during that minute in nineteen hundred and eighteen, that millions upon millions of human beings stopped butchering one another. I have talked to old men who were on battlefields during that minute. They have told me in one way or another that the sudden silence was the Voice of God. So we still have among us some men who can remember when God spoke clearly to mankind. Armistice Day has become Veterans' Day. Armistice Day was sacred. Veterans' Day is not. So I will throw Veterans' Day over my shoulder. Armistice Day I will keep. I don't want to throw away any sacred things." |

Mmmmmm.
Having insane fun tonight. There's something extremely relaxing about scooping out the inside of your head and using the resulting mess to make rorshach symbols on the bedroom wall, even if it doesn't actually change circumstances. Also, crayons are just full of win. As a consequence, I now have a venn diagram showing the various issues and priorities I'm currently working on. I have every intention of developing a 30+ page Guide to Kelsied's Life. Because I think it's funny as hell. But today, I was working in powerpoint on a laptop, instead of in visio on a desktop, and it took wayyyyy too long to make things line up and look pretty. So I got the venn diagrammed, and I'm taking a break until at least tomorrow before writing the narrative. Pulled together a power classical station on pandora that is just... spectacular. I'm hardly going to have to do any fine tuning on it at all, which pleases me greatly. Okay, maybe a little fine tuning. It all started out so promisingly.... No work tomorrow, which also pleases me. This laptop, on the other hand, is just about to earn itself a time out if it isn't careful. ((When I WANT you to move the cursor, I will do it MYSELF.)) In actuality, I don't have to be at work until Monday, and I'm using only one day of vacation to accomplish that feat. I do, however, need to attend Chemo-for-Dummies on Thursday, so that when mom goes in for chemo on Monday, we can make sure she has whatever she needs once she gets home. As an aside, I will note that people can stop feeling sorry for Not-at-all-suffering Husband, who not only got to keep his pillows BEFORE the recent array of vicious attacks on my character, but came out of things an entire feather body-pillow ahead. He is SO not getting any sympathy or guilt out of me on this one. No, just no. Work goes well enough. I have a new project, when I have free time in and around my all-encompassing but really boring project management duties. Not that it isn't interesting material, it's just all compilation and tracking people down and making them tell me things. Kinda frustrating, but being busy is nice. It's a necessary thing, it's just a somewhat lengthy project management gig which takes most of my time over a six month period, which... eh, it takes me away from the stuff I want to be working on. Next year it's getting handed off to my backup, so that'll be nice. Yesterday was Awwwwsome Husband's birthday, so we had a few friends over to his folks' house for a party (as our place is ... off limits, pending God only knows what). They've offered their place for more regular gatherings, but I don't like being indebted to them, so ... we'll see. For his birthday, it seemed to make sense, as they're his folks, and his dad wanted to be there when he opened his present from them. So, that went smoothly, though my chaos field was in FULL form, and I proceeded to roll 9s on just about 9 out of 10 rolls (random, because other people were rolling normally in the middle of all this, thank you) in the game of Anti-Monopoly-I we were playing... not to mention landing on the same damned property owned by the Cynic himself, every single time I went around the freaking board. Which was ridiculous, because the Board was not divisible by nine. Which means I was rolling nines except for the once per lap when I rolled the exact number I needed to even things out so I could land on that everloving penalty space... Argh! (Even the one string of doubles I got -- my only doubles in the game, but, like, five or six of them in a row -- landed me on a series of penalty spaces. Seriously. What the hell.) So, failed to win that, but I blame the Cynic, for using his dastardly superpowers to divert my chaos wake from affecting him. Otherwise, I would have won. Hands down. Certain sure. Even in a game that is clearly 100% luck based, as that one is. *nods* My-sister-the-nun is sticking around through Thanksgiving (was originally going back to Ohio Thursday) and the nuns are considering just letting her stay here through Christmas, which would be somewhat nice. Champions game is definitely on; I just have to get together with Brilliant Husband and sketch out the setting details a bit. And probably review the rules, as it's been a ... few ... years. Maybe go through and rough up a bunch of concepts, until it all clicks back into place. I pretty much memorized it my first time through, so it shouldn't be that painful a review session. Thinking about taking up dance again. Reluctant husband has finally agreed to it, so ... but probably not pryanksters. Not a bitchy thing, we're just already driving into davis four out of seven days each week, and I'd rather do something a little more formal anyway, and honestly... joining pryanksters doesn't serve my ulterior motive. Besides, if I want folk, I'll take up square dancing again, which I'm damned good at. But it's not my mood this instance... Well. Probably not my mood this instance. I admit a moment of temptation. I am damned good at it. It's a pity to let those skills go to waste. But I think if I suggest it, reluctant husband will find an excuse to back out (or at least be less enthusiastic), so we'll start with something he can feel is appropriately sophisticated and interesting. *grins* I may suggest it anyway, if I can find a local group that looks worth checking out... I should encourage Splendid-but-Flaky Husband to post up the announcement he was planning to post up, so that I can talk about it officially. How saddening...... This is rather long. How amusing. I think I shall post it now. |

Feel Good
Damon Albarn and Jamie Hewlett - better known as the (main) masterminds behind fictional rock-giants Gorillaz - have enlisted the one and only Alan Moore to pen the libretto for their next opera project. They made a splash with their adaptation of Journey to the West to stage, so I can only imagine that adding in Alan Moore to the mix can only result in something incredibly awesome. This is, of course, in addition to the upcoming third Gorillaz album - likely the last, given how little Jamie Hewlett seems to like drawing the characters these days. |

No, Matt was great as usual, and his speech on the Olympics was perfect, but the audience... fuck. They have this annoying inability to sit still and watch something. Why would someone pay $50 for a ticket only to sit through half of the show because people were either late; came into the theater when they chose to, even though the show had already begun; just had to get some munchies in the middle of the show; or go to the washroom when they could have gone before the show or during the intermission? I understand emergencies happen, but with the sheer amount of people that got up and came back with water, I doubt it was an emergency. I didn`t pay for this show to get up every ten minutes for people, to hear people talk for the entire show with their friends, or to have flashlights flailing all over the place because people can`t get to their seats on time. I should have displayed public dissent of my own by refusing to budge when people were getting up. Matt said he`s been doing sit down shows so people can relax, but clearly people can`t – they`re too distracted by either talking to their friends, pointing stuff out, getting up when they please, or answering calls. This sort of crap is rude at a movie theater, so how is this any different? It`s behaviour like this that makes me think ADD does exist and that it`s rampant in young adults. Perhaps I`m a bit grouchy because I got stuck behind a couple who couldn`t stop talking to each and pointing stuff out, which subsequently blocked my view because they had to get their heads close together to hear each other. To the left of me was a couple of over excited youngsters who acted as if they were on crack or were retards, flailing about as if they were Kramar. Thankfully someone yelled at them to shut up. And then sitting next to me was some goth looking women who stared at her plastic, light ball for half of the show, indicating that she might have been on something. I took the day off tomorrow because of last night. I got back to Johnny`s at midnight and I really needed to sleep in. Tomorrow`s a holiday too, so it`s an easy week for me :) Current Mood: relaxedCurrent Music: Pink Floyd - Money |

Khei's Infamous Crispy Teriyaki Chicken Strips
By Popular Demand I'm posting my simple lil method here. What you need.. * Plain Chicken Tenderloins (I usually get Tyson brand but any will do) * Teriyaki sauce (I prefer La Choy brand) * 1 - 2 eggs (Depending on how many strips you are making) * Cooking Oil (I use Canola Oil) * Plain Bread crumbs (Any old brand will do) * Skillet Defrost however many strips you plan to make then tenderize just a lil. In a medium bowl mix eggs and teriyaki sauce (12 or less strips = 1 egg 12+ strips = 2 eggs) marinate tenderloins then bread them. Then put them into a skillet with a light layer of oil. cook on medium heat until golden brown on both sides. Let drain on a rack or paper towels. and serve as desired. Total cooking time from prep to serve ranges about 10 - 20 minutes. Hope those directions are easy to follow. Kudos! ~ Khei Current Mood: chipper |

Apparently the "unlimited" data plan I've got...and will pay for each month...has a monthly cap of 5 gigs. They did not explain THAT to me and now I'm cross. I'm not sure if I'll use that much, but hell, I don't know how I can tell? And with $50 charge for every gig over, I can't afford it. Damn it, I don't want to return this phone. Also, there was no hot water today. Current Mood: bitchy |

Xeno's Pillowdox
Given: That 1/2 of everything that belongs to my husband belongs to me, under California Law. It necessarily follows that 1/2 of his pillows belong to me. As such, he should give me one. At which point, 1/2 of the remaining pillow belongs to me. HE has protested that this necessitates rending said pillow in twain. I have argued in favor of rounding up, and just giving me the remaining pillow. Kelsied's Corollary: Clearly, this does not apply in reverse; nothing is ever said about Xeno meeting anyone half-way. Final Score: Kelsied: 4 pillows. Kelsied's Husband: 0 pillows. I don't see how this is in any way unfair. |

Mkay.
So, had a decent talk with babysis and we're more or less on the same page. She's trying to get an extension through Thanksgiving... Otherwise, she has to leave on Thursday. Which is fine... I've probably more or less restabilized, or at least as much as I'm going to for a while, so ... yeah. I should figure out when I can afford to have my next nervous breakdown. Probably first or second week in January, fate and luck permitting. Hmmm, got a couple days off around Thanksgiving, but that's rather... near to now. I'll have a lot more reserves available once I can go off this gluten diet... it's absolutely killing my ability to think coherently. Right, gotta bring it back down now. Re-entering adult space. Jesus. Usually don't spend my allowance in December, and don't plan to now, but I'll probably stop by somewhere and pick up a Saint Anthony medal anyway. Seems appropriate to too many things in my life right now. And I've always had a stronger affinity for Saint Anthony than for Saint Jude (though Jude has often been a somewhat despairing alternate choice, in other moments). I suppose I could pick up a Marian medal as well, and cover all three bases. *grins* |

Oooooh I'm so SCREWED!!!
I should really learn to stop getting myself addicted to stuff.. I honestly think I can say now that I love AMG/OMG more than even Slayers. Why do I say this? Because as much as I love Slayers I'm content with the anime/OAV/Movies and am not compelled to seek out the Manga or an English version of the original novel. This is not true for AMG/OMG.. I've seen all of Ah! My Goddess season 1 and own the DVD set. Most of Season 2(Want the DVD set), want the OAVs and the Movie. (Dubbed of course) and now have resolved to take on the Manga. This wouldn't be so bad if there was only so many volumes like with Fushigi Yugi.. But OMG (The Manga is "Oh My Goddess" rather than Ah) started like in 1988 (According to Wiki) and is STILL ONGOING!!! This is both good and bad for me.. Good cause I don't think I'll ever get enough of the antics of Keiichi, Belldandy, Urd, Skuld, etc.. Bad cause we're talking 33 Volumes to date! That's A LOT of manga to hunt down and collect! *Cries* I'm sooo screwed!! ~ Khei Current Mood: frustrated |

Paranormal Activity Freakin' intense. A budget of 15,000. Gross revenue of 100 million. It beat Saw VI for the number one spot when it debuted nationwide. Very good movie. That is all. |

Khei Just Can't Win..
I had the money saved up. Took a few days but I did get the cash saved up to get the AMG Season 2 box set Hastings had on the $25 or less rack.. Drove down there early this morning, cash in hand, only to find the sign had been removed and someone had beat me to the ONE box set I wanted.. ARG!!! Why does the universe hate me so damned much? *Sigh* Sad thing is that I had a gut feeling that it was gonna be gone.. I'm betting someone bought it just yesterday. It figures tho.. that's always the kind of luck I've had. Ah well.. Just gonna hafta save up the $50 to get it via Amazon. You win again universe.. You win again.. ~ Khei Current Mood: annoyed |

Well, I did it
After nearly twenty years of long LONG hair, I've cut it. It is now shoulder length and layered so that it curls all over. The cut has taken alot of the weight off and my neck and head no long hurt as they have in the past so... cross your fingers because the hubby now has to like it. Yeah..well.. to late now to worry about it. ;) Current Mood: calm |
